TAKEphONE-i & TAKEphONE Gold

< Back

This manual is for TAKEphONE Gold & TAKEphONE-i.

TAKEphONE-i is the original version of TAKEphONE for the iPhone platform. TAKEphONE Gold is the “next generation”.

Starting from version 2.02 I have merged the two apps, so they are actually the same application.

TAKEphONE main tabs

< Back

TAKEphONE has 3 main tabs (aka "screens" or "views") – "Search", "Speed-Dial" & "Redial".

You can navigate between them by tapping the tabs at the bottom. You can also set TAKEphONE to launch in any of the tabs in the system settings – in the TAKEphONE section.

You can now select between two themes for these screens (in the app settings, or from the FIND screen – tap & HOLD the top search field for a menu):

How do I find a contact ?

< Back

The “Find” tab

When you launch the application, it opens in the “Find” tab by default (you can change this in settings – see the last section). When the search string (in the top title bar) is empty, the app displays by default a “Last call” line, and the “i-Bar” line (read about these later on). You can change this to displaying the full contacts list or nothing at all in the application settings.

Tap the text you want to search for using large on-screen buttons (for stylus-free / one-hand operation). When using this mode, you can search for contacts a lot faster:

Tap the text you want to search for using the on-screen keypad. To lookup "John" you do NOT need to tap the "JKL" button once, then “MNO” 3 times - only tap each button once. All combinations of the letters will be looked up (you can see in our example “Kate Dell” was also found).

To add more flexibility to the search, you can tap & HOLD the “* And” on-screen button to divide the search string into two, so that both the sorted fields can be used in the search.

Example: Say you want to locate “John Doe”. You tap “JKL”, and find out you have too many “John”s in your address-book. All you need to do is tap “..And..” + “DEF” + “MNO”, and the software will search for a record containing BOTH the combination “JKL”, and the second combination “DEF”+”MNO”, which will surely lead to a close enough match.

Tap the “CLR” button (left pointing arrow) to backspace, tap and HOLD it to clear the whole search string.

Once you find a contact, tap it to open its “Details” screen:

Here you see all the contact details & phone fields. You can start a call, SMS, email or open a website by tapping the field or the appropriate icon. You can also view notes if one exists, open the contact record for editing (“Full info”), delete the contact or add it to the TAKEphONE speed-dial list (“Add to speed”).

Dialing/adding a manual number

You can also use the FIND screen on-screen keypad to call a phone number directly – just tap the number you want:

Once you tapped the number in, you can start a call to it by tapping the “Call” button (the entire top line where the number is displayed).

If you tap & HOLD on that line, you will be prompted with a menu for additional actions: you can start an SMS to that number, use it to create a new contact or add it to an existing contact.

New: you can now also start an SMS, create a new contact with that number, or add it to an existing one right from the screen by tapping the appropriate line.

When you select “Add to existing” - you will be taken back to the main screen to locate the contact you want to add the number to:

Find the contact and tap it, and you will be prompted to select the phone field type and add it.

To cancel this operation – tap the little icon on the top-left corner.

Dialing speed-dial entries from the main “Find” screen

You can speed-dial the first 10 speed-dial entries right from the main FIND screen by tapping & HOLDING the 0-9 on-screen buttons.

Dialing by image from the main “Find” screen (i-Bar)

Another great way to start calls immediately is the i-Bar – when the search is empty, the app can display a line of image buttons containing the favorite entries that have images in their contact records. You can start a call to those entries by tapping their image.

Important: the i-Bar is populated automatically from the internal TAKEphONE speed-dial database, by taking only those entries that have an image attached to the contact. So – to fill the i-Bar line, you need to fill your speed-dial list with entries of contacts that have images. The ordering within the i-Bar is determined by the ordering of the speed-dial list – see the section about the speed-dial tab below for more details.

Redialing the last outgoing call from the main “Find” screen

When the search is empty, the app can display a line with the details of the last outgoing call made from within TAKEphONE. Tap that line to quickly redial last call, tap & HOLD to SMS or open the contact details screen (to call other numbers, etc.)

Note: Apple does not allow 3rd party developers to access the device built-in calls log. This is why TAKEphONE can only show outgoing calls made from TAKEphONE.

The Speed Dial tab

< Back

You can create a list of up to 50 entries to be used as Speed-Dial. They are managed in the “Speed Dial” tab:

Speed-dial entries are created from the FIND screen – selecting contacts and opening them in the “Details” screen, the tapping the “Add to speed” button. You will be prompted to select the speed-dial default phone field.

To call the default phone number for an entry – tap it. For more actions – tap & HOLD the button, and you will be prompted to select more action: you can SMS the number, open the contact details for more phone fields, edit the favorite name (to make it shorter or more relevant), Remove the entry from the speed-dial list, or change its position:

Tap on any button you want to move the entry to, and it will be moved. Tap the original button to cancel operation.

The Redial tab

< Back

The Redial list is kept automatically by the software, and holds the 10 recently used phone numbers. Tap/Select a record in the list to call it, or tap & HOLD it to open a menu, enabling calling, SMS-ing, or opening the contact details screen.

Note: Apple does not allow 3rd party developers to access the device built-in calls log. This is why TAKEphONE can only show outgoing calls made from TAKEphONE.

Settings

< Back

To access the application settings – launch the system “Settings” application, and select the TAKEphONE section:

* You can change the “Qwerty keypad” option from within the application by tapping and HOLDING the top field in the FIND screen when the search is empty.

* You can change the “Skin” option from within the application by tapping and HOLDING the top field in the FIND screen when the search is empty.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TAKEphONE !!!
